Tame those reds with an aerator

WHY: Wine lovers seem to have an insatiable appetite for new gizmos. Last year the biggie was magnetic coasters that made tannic wine more mellow in minutes.
My choice of gadget this year is the Final Touch Aerator. It's a glass bowl you plug into the top of the bottle. As the wine is poured, the swirling liquid is aerated, releasing added aromas, enhancing flavours and even catching sediment. It replaces the traditional decanter.
I'd suggest this for big, soaked-in-oak-reds, like unfiltered Aussie shiraz, or the better Bordeaux chateaux reds.
It does look rather like something that escaped from the test tube laboratory, but it helps to tame those monster reds. |
